When art draws a future for the Children of the Mekong

In January 2020, Hom Nguyen made a record donation of his work to the charity Enfants du Mékong to support school children in the Cambodian center of Sisophon. A Parisian law firm has joined forces with the artist to sell the paintings and guarantee the success of the event. Thanks to them, 750 children will be educated and fed in Cambodia for a year. An incredible convergence of generosity which finds its origins in an encounter.

January 2019, Hom Nguyen, on vacation in Cambodia with his children, offers

Enfants du Mékong to volunteer and offered 3 days of drawing lessons. On this occasion, he discovered the center of Sisophon in the north-west of the country and the children who live there, all from the poorest areas (rural areas, shanty towns, villages without schools, etc.) schooled thanks to the charity and generosity of child sponsors in France.

Hom is deeply touched by the simplicity of the work, the generosity of the center's teams but above all the incredible strength of these children who show awe inspiring courage: “The meeting with these children overwhelmed me. They have nothing but they hold on. I felt an incredible energy in them.” The self-taught artist with a big heart, undoubtedly one of the greatest talents of French contemporary painting, nevertheless had a modest childhood. He recognizes himself in these children and decides upon his return to help the charity by offering several of his paintings for an auction.
